texture update

i have updated the texture on thw wheels to make them look scratched and have textured the two carriges. next will be to add scratches to the metal parts and set up the environment.

texturing the track

texturing is going alot better this week, as you can see from this picture. it obviously still needs alot of work but its a good start.

quick animation render

a quick test video to give you an idea of what i am talking about. what i need to do is clear. the spline needs adjusting and my textures need sorting, and the trains going the wrong way but were getting there i feel.

animating the train

using a spline that i have placed over the track (purple line) i have been able to make the train follow it. this gives a rough impression of the train going around the track. i now need to work on the spline to make it as acurate as possible, and then figure out how to rotate the train wheels.

uvw unwrapping test

as i have never used the uvw unwrap process to texture an object before i decided to practice on a simple box shap i created in 3ds max, this shape forms part of my model train. after i unwrapped the uvw with the help of an online tutorial, i rendered it out and took it into photoshop. i then made this quick pattern. i saved it as a jpg and took it back into 3dsmax and applied it to my object. the process was surprisingly simple but as i have more advanced shapes to texture for my project i expect they will be more complicated to unwrap.
